過去進行時,簡單來理解,是指在過去的時間段內(nèi)正在發(fā)生的動作,構成為主語+be+doing形式,結構上和現(xiàn)在進行時一樣,只不過be動詞用過去式形式.常用的標志詞有this time yesterday;at four yesterday afternoon等。

While作連詞
(1)引導時間狀語,意思是“當…時”。

她聽著收音機睡著了。
(2)引起讓步狀語從句,意思是“雖然…但是….”、“盡管…但是…”(多放于句首)

雖然他愛他的學生,可是他對他們很嚴格。

雖然這些實驗很有趣也有用,但是很重要的是要記住,這些實驗也可能不會告訴你很多。
(3)引導條件狀語,意思是“只要”
1.While there is life, there is hope.只要生命存在,就有希望。
2.While there is a way, there is away.有志者事竟成。
While作并列連詞用,意思為“而,然而”,表對比。而but表轉(zhuǎn)折。注意用心比較體會while與but的句中用意

有些人很費糧食,然而有些人卻吃不飽。
2.The son was having a good meal at home,while the parents were working in the fields.
兒子在家吃好飯而父母卻在田里辛勤勞作。
辨析while與when
都譯為“當…的時候”,區(qū)別為:when后的從句謂語動詞既可是延續(xù)性動詞,也可是短暫性動詞,而且還可作并列連詞,譯為“這時”。但以下句型一定用when,作并列連詞:
句型A:be about to do…when…正要做…這時(發(fā)生另一事)
句型B:was/were doing…when…正在…這時(發(fā)生
15、另一事)
句型C:had done…when…剛要做…這時(發(fā)生另一事)
1.We were about to set out when it began to rain.
我們剛要出發(fā)天突然下雨了。
2.He had hardly sat down when his mobile rang.
他剛一坐下手機就響了。
3.I was walking along the bank of the river when I fell into it.
我正沿河岸散步突然掉進水里。
while后的從句謂語動詞只能是延續(xù)性動詞,強調(diào)主從句的兩個動詞同時發(fā)生;while也可作并列連詞,表示
16、兩個動作的對比,譯為“而”“然而”。
