I thought the programme was wonderful—I found the old news pictures really interesting— they helped to bring to life the stories the people were telling. The programme reminds me of many things from my own childhood. For example, one day when I was about five, I was going to school on the bus by myself (this was the late 1960s). My mother had given me exactly the right money for a return ticket. I held out my hand with the money in it—one big coin on top of one little coin. The bus conductor took the big top coin only and she gave me a ticket, but it was a pink one for a single journey. I needed a white one for a return journey, but I was too frightened to say anything. When school finished for the day, I couldn't catch the bus home—I had to walk. As a grown-up, whenever I've been in a situation where I need to say something or take some action, this early memory of my bus ride comes back to me, and I' m able to take control of the situation. I would like to say to the director, Bret Chrysler, carry on making this kind of programme. Too much TV these days is quiz shows and so-called "reality programmes". I appreciate the human story that can make me laugh and cry. Yours faithfully, Chris Daniels 1. What is Chris Daniels' purpose of writing this letter? A. To persuade Bret Chrysler to turn away from quiz shows. B. To entertain other readers with old news pictures. C. To express his appreciation of the programme. D. To have his story told on the programme. 2. Chris Daniels tells the story about the bus ticket to ___________. A. describe how painful his early experience was B. draw a direct response from Alison Burnham C. show how the programme made him think D. teach the readers of TV Weekly a lesson. 3. According to the passage, Chris Daniels had to walk home because _________. A. he hadn’t got a return ticket. B. he had lost his bus ticket C. he didn’t like big crowds D. he missed the bus home 4. What does Chris Daniels now think about his experience on the bus? A. He should have told the conductor then. B. He should have been well treated. C. He regrets going to school alone. D. He wishes it hadn’t happened. VII.信息匹配 下面是一篇應用文及其應用場合的信息,請閱讀下列應用文和相關信息,并按照要求匹配信息。 A.American & British Classics A classic is a literary work which has stood the test of time. A private American organization call Population Action International did the new study. It says more than three hundred and thirty-five million people lack enough water now. People live in twenty-eight countries. Most of the countries are in Africa or the Middle East. PAI researcher Robert Engelman says by the year 2025 , about three thousand million people lack water. At least 18 more countries are expected to have serious water problems. The demand for water keeps increasing. Yet the amount of water on Earth stays the same. The report says lack of water in the future may result several problems. It may increase health problems. Lack of water often means drinking water is not safe. Mr. Engelman says there are problems all over the world because of disease such as cholera that is carried in water. Lack of water also may result in more international conflict. Countries may have to fight for water in the future. Some countries now get sixty percent of their fresh water from other countries. This is true of Egypt, the Netherlands, Cambodia, Syria, Sudan and Iraq. And the report says lack of water would affect the ability to improve their economies. This is because new industries often need a large amount of water when they are beginning. 可能用到的語言結構:1) face (vt) / be faced with 2) sth shows that… 3) as the population is increasing / with the population increasing 4) It’s (high) time (that) +過去式 5)source (來源) 6) international conflict 國際沖突 7)be fit to do sth 8) That’s why … 9) so / such …that 參考答案 I. 單詞拼寫:1. wonders 2. survived 3. designed 4. furniture 5. evidence 6. reception 7. doubt 8. removed 9. treasure 10. fancy II. 1. lit 2. secretly 3. besides 4. culture 5. rarely 6. proofs 7. wooden III. His family, which is at 138, Yucai Road, Guangzhou, China, has got three people. Both his parents are teachers. Lihua has two hobbies, which are collecting stamps and coins. He knows English well and can speak perfect English. 第二節(jié):任務型寫作 We should try to save water because we human beings are facing the lack of water seriously. A private organization from the USA shows their study that more than three hundred and thirty-five million people lack water nowadays. By the year of 2025, about three thousand million people lack water. As the population of the world is increasing fast, the lack of water is getting more and more serious, which will lead to a lot of problems such as disease and international conflict. I think it is high time that we paid great attention to this problem now because water is the source of life. Where's there water, there is life. It can even change desert into green land (oasis). However, it is very limited to human beings, especially it has kept being polluted so seriously that less and less of it can be fit to drink. If we lack water, we will face the most serious conflict, which may lead our world to great disaster. This is why we have to save water. 111- 配套講稿:
