Guide the Ss to understand the passage and learn about more details of school life in the UK. 情感目標(biāo) Encourage the Ss to learn to view our school life in a different perspective and love our school and our country 教學(xué)重點(diǎn) To learn some expressions about school life and understand the passage 教學(xué)難點(diǎn) To learn to apply two basic reading skills: skimming and scanning 教學(xué)過(guò)程 二次備課 Step1. Lead in 1. If you were an exchange student in a UK school, what would you enjoy most? 2. Collect answers from a few students. 3. Today we’ll read an article from a school magazine, written by Wei Hua, who studied in the UK for one year. Let’s find out what she finds enjoyable. Step 2. Reading for general ideas 1.Before we read the article, we are going to learn the reading strategy: skimming and scanning. Please look at page 3: Reading strategy. Skimming: to get a general idea of the article, without studying it in detail. Focus on the titles, headings, the first and last sentences or paragraphs, charts and pictures … Scanning: to find certain information in an article quickly. Look for key words and phrases, dates and numbers, etc. 2. Skimming Go through the passage as quickly as possible and try to find answers to the three questions in Part A. 3. Scanning Now reread the passage and complete Part C1 Step 3. Detailed reading for important information 1. Dealing with C2 Now reread the passage and complete Part C2 individually. 2. Dealing with specific aspects Go through the article first and find out what topics are covered in it. Some aspects that reflect school life in the UK are mentioned in Wei Hua’s letter. Try to find out what specific aspects are mentioned and then fill in the form with relevant information. Are the following aspects of school life mentioned in the article? teachers, classmates, friends, subjects, homework/assignments, grades, timetable, activities, school facilities, host family, food, hobbies, customs, traditions, festivals 4. Dealing with D and E Complete Parts D and E individually first and then we’ll check the answers together. Part D helps you comprehend the meanings of the words from the context and match them with the correct definitions; while Part E is a letter from a British student who wants to make friends with Wei Hua. You’ve got to first understand the letter and then fill in the blanks with proper words. Step 4. Task-based reading Ask the Ss to do the task-based reading and check answers.
