2019-2020年高考英語大二輪復習 第一部分 閱讀理解 專題一 閱讀理解 第4講 詞義猜測題即時演練 [xx重慶一診]A study involving 8,500 teenagers from all social backgrounds found that most of them are ignorant when it es to money. The findings, the first in a series of reports from Nat West that has started a fiveyear research project into teenagers and money, are particularly worrying as this generation of young people is likely to be burdened with greater debts than any before. University tuition fees (學費) are currently capped at £3,000 annually, but this will be reviewed next year and the Government is under enormous pressure to_raise_the__ceiling. In the research, the teenagers were presented with the terms of four different loans but 76 percent failed to identify the cheapest. The young people also predicted that they would be earning on average £31,000 by the age of 25, although the average salary for those aged 22 to 29 is just £17,815. The teenagers expected to be in debt when they finished university or training, although half said that they assumed the debts would be less than £ 10,000. Average debts for graduates are £12,363. Stephen Moir, head of munity investment at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group which owns Nat West, said. “The more exposed young people are to financial issues, and the younger they bee aware of them, the more likely they are to bee responsible, forwardplanning adults who manage their finances confidently and effectively.” Ministers are deeply concerned about the financial pressures on teenagers and young people because of students loans and rising housing costs. They have just introduced new lessons in how to manage debts. Nikki Fairweather, aged 15, from St Helens, said that she had benefited from lessons on personal finance, but admitted that she still had a lot to learn about money. 1.Which of the following can be found from the fiveyear research project? A.Students understand personal finances differently. B.University tuition fees in England have been rising. C.Teenagers tend to overestimate their future earnings. D.The students payback ability has bee a major issue. 2.The underlined phrase “to raise the ceiling” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”. A.to raise the student loans B.to improve the school facilities C.to increase the upper limit of the tuition D.to lift the school building roofs 答案:C 考查詞義猜測。 3.According to Stephen Moir, students________. A.are too young to be exposed to financial issues B.should learn to manage their finances well C.should maintain a positive attitude when facing loans D.benefit a lot from lessons on personal finance 答案:B 考查推理判斷。 4.What can we learn from the passage? A.Many British teenagers do not know money matters well. B.Teenagers in Britain are heavily burdened with debts. C.Financial planning is a required course at college. D.Young people should bee responsible adults. 1.background n. 個人的;私人的 1.in debt 負債 2.be concerned about 對……擔憂 3.benefit from 從……中受益 原文:the younger they bee aware of them, the more likely they are to bee responsible.(the+比較級, the+比較級) 譯文:他們越年輕意識到他們(經濟問題),他們越可能變得負責。 The_harder you work, the_greater_progress you will make. Nick Vujicic was born with no arms or legs, but the brave 32yearold man, plays football and golf, swims, and surfs. Nick has a small foot on his left side, which helps him balance and enables him to kick. He uses his one foot to type, write with a pen and pick things up between his toes. “I call it my chicken drumstick,” joked Nick. “Id be lost without it. When I get in the water I float because 80 percent of my body is lungs and my drumstick acts as a propeller (螺旋槳).” When Nick was born, his father was so shocked he left the hospital room to vomit. His distraught mother couldnt bring herself to hold him until he was four months old. “It was so hard for them, but right from the start they did their best to make me independent. My dad put me in the water when I was 18 months old and gave me the courage to learn how to swim,” said Nick. Throughout his childhood Nick dealt with the typical challenges. At the age of seven, Nick tried out some specially designed electronic arms and legs, in the hope that he would be more like other kids. During the short trial period of the electronic arms and legs, Nick realized that even with them, he was still unlike his peers at school, and they turned out to be much too heavy for Nick to operate, affecting his flexibility quite significantly. “When I was 13 I read a newspaper article about a disabled man who had managed to achieve great things and help others,” said Nick, “I realized why God had made us like this-to give hope to others. It was so inspirational to me that I decided to use my life to encourage others and decided to be thankful for what I do have, not get angry about what I dont.” “I tell people to keep on getting up when they fall and to always love themselves,” he said. “If I can encourage just one person then my job in this life is done.” By now, he has visited 35 different countries, touring the world as a motivational speaker. 5.What makes it possible for Nick to swim in the water? A.His small size. B.His small foot. C.His light weight. D.His big lungs. 根據(jù)第一段的第二句“Nick has a small foot on his left side, which helps him balance and enables him to kick”并結合第二段中的“my drumstick acts as a propeller (螺旋槳)”可知,Nick的小腳使其游泳成為可能,故選B項。 6.The underlined word “distraught” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”. A.coldblooded B.badtempered C.really crazy D.extremely upset 答案:D 考查詞義猜測。根據(jù)第三段的第一句“When Nick was born, his father was so shocked he left the hospital room to vomit”可推知,Nick剛出生時的樣子嚇到了父母,當時Nick的母親應該是很難過的,故選D項。 7.Nick abandoned the electronic arms and legs because____ ____. A.his family couldnt afford them B.his classmates didnt like them C.they were too heavy to handle D.they affected his appearance 答案:C 考查細節(jié)理解。根據(jù)第五段最后一句中的“and they turned out to be much too heavy for Nick to operate, affecting his flexibility quite significantly”可知,電動的胳膊和腿太沉了,使他的靈活性大受影響,因此在嘗試一段時間后,他不再使用它們了,故選C項。 8.Which of the following statements is true? A.Nicks parents were very strict with him. B.Nicks family accepted his disability at his birth. C.Nicks mother was to blame for his disability. D.Nick learned to be independent at a young age. 1.shock v./n. 鼓勵 1.act as 充當;擔當 2.try out 嘗試,試驗 3.turn out 結果是;證明是;生產 原文:During the short trial period of the electronic arms and legs,..., and they turned out to be much too heavy for Nick to operate, affecting his flexibility quite significantly. (too...to... Because of the serious illness, she was too_weak_ to_join_us_in the outing.
