This season, however, 20 percent of NBA rosters(花名冊(cè)) will be filled by non-Americans. NBA missioner David Stem happily embraces the trend. On a visit to Paris in October, Stern outlined his vision for the future, which is likely to see Europe hosting NBA games by xx. The NBA is now planning to take China by storm. “Our experience in China has been that it is going to be explosive in its growth,” said Stern. The strategy(戰(zhàn)略,策略) in China is television. “We’ve made 14 deals in China with local and national networks on cable and satellite.” The success of Chinese centre Yao Ming has paved the way for the NBA marketing blitz in China. The NBA, which is broadcasted in more than 200 countries in 42 languages, will put that to the test in October xx when the Houston Rockets play two pre-season games against the Sacramento Kings in Beijing and Shanghai. The NBA knows that it needs a global market to pensate for tough times on home soil. “It doesn’t matter where the players e from, all the NBA teams now know that they have to scout(尋找,覓得) internationally,” said Terry Lyons, the NBA’s vice-president of international public relations. “It has increased the level of petition here.” As Frenchman Tony Parker and Argentine Emanuel Ginobili showed in winning championship rings with the San Antonio Spurs last season, many people can earn the respect of their American peers. Others, such as the Houston Rockets’ Chinese centre Yao Ming — number one draft pick in xx — and the Detroit Pistons’ 18-year-old Serb Darko Milicic — number two overall in this year’s draft — are icons(偶像)in-waiting. It is often tempting to hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate, but this can set up dangerous feelings of failure and states of worry in the child. This might happen at any stage. A baby might be forced to use a toilet too early, a young child might be encouraged to learn to read before he knows the meaning of the words he reads. On the other hand, though, if a child is left alone too much, or without any learning opportunities, he loses his natural enthusiasm for life and his desire to find out new things for himself. Parents vary greatly in their degree of strictness towards their children. Some may be especially strict in money matters. Others are severe (嚴(yán)格的) over time of ing home at night or punctuality for meals. In general, the controls represent the needs of the parents and the values of the munity as much as the childs own happiness. As regards the development of moral standards in the growing child, consistency is very important in parental teaching. To forbid a thing one day and excuse it the next is no foundation for morality (道德). Also, parents should realize that "example is better than precept". If they are not sincere and do not practice what they preach (說(shuō)教), their children may grow confused when they grow old enough to think for themselves, and realize they have been to some extent fooled. A sudden awareness of a marked difference between their parents principles and their morals can be a dangerous disappointment. 31. Eagerly watching the child’s acquisition of new skills, _________________. A. should be avoided B. is universal among parents C. sets up dangerous states of worry in the child D. will make the child lose interest in learning new things 32. In the process of children’s learning new skills, parents _________________. A. should encourage them to read before they know the meaning of the words they read B. should expect a lot of the children C. should achieve a balance between pushing them too hard and leaving them on their own D. should create as many learning opportunities as possible 33. The second paragraph mainly tells us that _________________. A. parents should be strict with their children B. parental controls reflect only the values of the munity C. parental restrictions vary, and are not always for the benefit of the children alone D. it’s parents’ and society’s duty to control the children 34. The word “precept” in Paragraph 3 probably means “_________________”. A. opinion B. punishment C. behavior D. instruction 35. In terms of moral matters, parents should _____________________. A. follow the rules themselves B. be aware of the huge difference between adults and children C. forbid their children to follow hook teachings D. always ensure the security of their children In bringing up children, every parent watches eagerly the childs acquisition of each new skill,既然是每位父母都會(huì)這樣做,那么這種做法在 父母中就是普遍的,故選B。 sets up dangerous states of worry in the child是由hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate引起的,“迫不及待地要 求孩子做超出其自然成長(zhǎng)速度的事情”和“熱切地觀察孩子學(xué)會(huì)每一項(xiàng)新技能”顯然不是一 回事,作者對(duì)后者沒(méi)有否定之意,所以A不對(duì)。 D。will make him lose interest in learning new things是由a child is left alone too much, or without any learning opportunities引起的。 It is often tempting to hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate, but this can set Up dangerous feelings of failure and states of worry in the child,說(shuō)明在孩子成長(zhǎng)過(guò)程中,父母不能拔苗助長(zhǎng)。文章第一段末句又說(shuō):On the other hand, though,if a child is left alone too much,or without any learning opportunities,he loses his natural enthusiasm for life and his desire to find out new things for himself,說(shuō)明對(duì)孩子太放任自流同樣 不利。 四個(gè)選項(xiàng)的意思分別是:A. opinion (觀點(diǎn));B. punishment(懲罰);C. bebaviour(行為);D.instruction(說(shuō)教,源于instruct)。 Also, parents should realize that “example is better than precept”.If they are not sincere and do not practice what they preach(說(shuō)教)… A。 C Three Central Texas men were honored with the Texas Department of Public Safetys Directors Award in a Tuesday morning ceremony for their heroism in saving the victims of a serious twocar accident. The accident occurred on March 25 when a vehicle lost control while traveling on rainsoaked State Highway 6 near Baylor Camp Road. It ran into an oning vehicle, leaving the occupants trapped inside as both vehicles burst into flames. Bonge was the first on the scene and heard children screaming. He broke through a back window and pulled Mallory Smith, 10, and her sister, Megan Smith, 9, from the wreckage. The girls mother, Beckie Smith, was not with them at the time of the wreck, as they were traveling with their body sitter, Lisa Bowbin. Beckie Smith still remembers the sickening feeling she had upon receiving the call informing her of the wreck and the despair as she drove to the scene. Bozeman and Clemmons arrived shortly after Bonge and helped rescue the other victims and attempted to put out the fires. “I was nervous,”Bozeman said. “I dont feel like Im a hero. I was just doing what anyone should do in that situation. I hope someone would do the same for me.” Everyone at the accident made it out alive, with the victims suffering from nonlifethreatening injuries. Mallory Smith broke both femurs, and Megan had neck and back injuries. Bowbin is still recovering from a broken pelvis, ankle and foot. The rescuers also were taken to the hospital and treated for cuts and smoke breathing, Bonge said. In addition, Bozeman got to meet accident victim Anthony Russo in the hospital after the accident, where Russo presented him with a glass frame inscribed with “Thank you”, Bozeman said. Those involved in that fateful encounter on Highway 6 credited God blessing for bringing them together. “Whatever the circumstances, Tuesdays ceremony provided a time to be grateful for those who put their lives on the line for the lives of plete strangers,”Beckie Smith said,“Were calling it The Miracle on Highway 6.” 36.Whats the main idea of the passage? Tracey Hermanstorfers heart stopped beating and her son Coltyn appeared lifeless after the Caesarean(剖腹產(chǎn)術(shù))section on Christmas Eve. However a few minutes after he was born, both began breathing again. Dr Stephanie Martin told Good Morning America she could not explain how the pair survived. Mrs Hermanstorfer and her husband Mike told the American television show that their baby was now healthy and that they were doing “good” following the drama at Colorado Springs Memorial Hospital. The couple, who already had two children, had to go into the hospital seven weeks earlier than planned. Her husband, 37, said his wife was tired after receiving an epidural(硬腦膜外麻醉)during the labour(分娩)but after closing her eyes, she “wasnt waking up”.She stopped breathing and she is believed to have suffered a heart attack before her heart stopped beating entirely. Dr Martin said she was called in and that the outlook was grim since in most situations like this,“despite the best efforts of the team”, the mother was often unable to be revived. In that case doctors then tried to focus on delivering the baby but when he was born he was “pletely lifeless”. Mr Hermanstorfer told the Associated Press news agency,“I had everything in the world taken from me, and in an hour and a half I had everything given to me.” Dr Martin said she did not have a “great explanation” for why Mrs Hermanstorfers heartbeat returned. “Somewhere between four and five minutes she had been without heart rate and had stopped breathing a minute or two prior to her heart stopping,” she said. The doctors were then able to bring the baby back to life, and the mother was alive after that. Despite tests, she said doctors were still not sure about what had happened. However Mrs Hermanstorfer and her husband Mike have said they believed it was down to a miracle. She said:“I got a second chance in life.” 41.The story happened on________.
