2019-2020年高考英語總復(fù)習(xí) 單元檢測7 第一節(jié): 閱讀理解(共20小題,每題2分,滿分40分) A I recall my mother’s voice which called me to order, and often ended with some strong proverb to express the gravity of the wrong done. It was mon practice for my mother to send me off soul-searching with a proverb. Of the many interactions I had with my mother those many years ago, one stands out with clarity. I remember the occasion when Mother sent me to the main road, about twenty yards away from the farmhouse, to invite a passing group of seasonal work-seekers home for a meal. She instructed me to take a container along and collect dry cow dung (牛糞) for making a fire. I was then to prepare the meal for the group of work-seekers. The thought of making an open fire outside at midday, cooking in a large three-legged pot in that high heat, was enough to upset even an angel. I did not manage to hide my feelings from my mother, and after serving the group, she called me to the balcony, where she usually sat to attend to her sewing (縫紉). Looking straight into my eyes, she said, “Tsholofelo, why were you so unhappy when I requested you to prepare a meal for those poor people?” Despite my attempt to deny her allegation (斷言), and using the heat of the fire and the sun as an excuse for my alleged behavior, Mother, giving me a firm look, said, “A foot has no nose.” It means, “You can’t detect what trouble may lie ahead of you.” Had I denied the group of people a meal, it may have happened that, in my travels some time in the future, I found myself at the mercy of those very individuals. As if that was not enough to shame me, Mother continued, “A person is a person because of another person.” 1. We learn from the passage that Tsholofelo’s mother often _____. C After successfully serving their term for four years, military service men and women are given the choice to stay in the military or return to civilian life. For some, having to readjust to civilian life is one of the most challenging assignments our returning soldiers and marines(水兵) will ever have to undertake. While people may think that readjusting should be simple, they must take into consideration all the physical and mental stress our servicemen went through. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder(創(chuàng)傷后應(yīng)激障礙), or PTSD, is a mental disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as military bat(打仗). Most survivors of trauma return to normal given a little time. In the military, the marines are given a two-week course on how to return to civilian life. Unfortunately, some will have stress reactions that do not go away on their own, or may even get worse over time. These individuals may develop PTSD. People who suffer from PTSD have difficulty sleeping because they are often reliving the experience through nightmares(夢魘) and flashbacks, and feel deserted or often stand off, and these symptoms can be severe enough and last long enough to significantly damage the person’s daily life. Fullerton College, like most college, has its own Veteran’s(老兵) Office. Ray Bustos has been running the office for 3 years. Bustos acts as a liaison(聯(lián)絡(luò)) for the school and the veteran students. He makes sure the veterans returning to school get the right benefits. There are various types of financial aid for soldiers and marines. He strongly encourages the use of the Veterans Affairs website. The best title for the passage is ______. A. PTSD: Killer of A Civilian Life B. The Last Assignment for All Military Persons C. How to Overe PTSD D. Ready for A Civilian Life? D Lots of people have hobbies. Some people collect old coins or foreign stamps; some do needlework; others spend most of their spare time on a particular sport. A lot of people enjoy reading. But reading tastes differ widely. Some people only read newspapers or ics, some like reading novels, while others prefer books on astronomy, wildlife, or technological discoveries. If I happen to be interested in horses or precious stones, I cannot expect everyone else to share my enthusiasm. If I watch all the sports programs on TV with great pleasure, I must put up with the fact that other people find sports boring. Is there nothing that interests us all? Is there nothing that concerns everyone—no matter who they are or where they live in the world? Yes, dear Sophie, there are questions that certainly should interest everyone. They are precisely the questions this course is about. What is the most important thing in life? If we ask someone living on the edge of starvation, the answer is food. If we ask someone dying of cold, the answer is warmth. If we put the same question to someone who feels lonely and isolated, the answer will probably be the pany of other people. But when these basic needs have been satisfied—will there still be something that everybody needs? Philosophers think so. They believe that man cannot live by bread alone. Of course everyone needs food. And everyone needs love and care. But there is something else—apart from that—which everyone needs, and that is to figure out who we are and why we are here. Being interested in why we are here is not a “casual” interest like collecting stamps. People who ask such questions are taking part in a debate that has gone on as long as man has lived on this planet. How the universe, the earth, and life came into being is a bigger and more important question than who won the most gold medals in the last Olympics. 13.
