He was there every morning, sitting motionless on the front steps of his house. In the morning light, I could see the shadows that were etched(蝕刻)deep within the lines surrounding his eyes. Each morning I walked this route with my daughter to her kindergarten class. We were new to the neighborhood so that I didn’t know many of my neighbors. On one beautiful autumn morning, as we passed his house, my daughter called out to him, “Hi, Mr. Man!” Always the outgoing child, I wasn’t surprised at her enthusiasm. But her cheerfulness soon faded when the man didn’t look at her and say “Hi” back. As we continued on our walk to school, my daughter asked why the man didn’t want to say hi to her. Because I didn’t have an answer, I said simply, “Maybe he is having a bad day.” later I knew that Bob lost his wife in a car accident. A few days later, as we approached Bob’s house on our way to school, my daughter called out “Hi Mr. Man!” and as usual, he didn’t respond. But then she ran onto his front lawn and picked up a beautiful red autumn leaf. She continued up one step and handed it to him. I held my breath. As she skipped back to me, she said, “See you tomorrow, Mr. Man!” This time, he acknowledged her. In a soft gentle voice, he thanked her and said, “See you tomorrow.” From then on, Bob and my daughter exchanged greeting each morning. Our friendship with Bob continued for many years. But, the sweetest day is when Bob attended my daughter’s high school graduation. Bob gave my daughter a gift---a book on identifying various plants and trees. There, tucked in the pages that described an oak tree, was the leaf my daughter had given to Mr. Man when they first met. He had dried and pressed it and kept it all those years. 1.What puzzled the girl? A. The cause of the man’s sadness B. The shadows in the man’s eyes C. The man’s sitting still on the steps D. The man’s not answering her greeting 2.How did the author feel when his daughter gave the red leaf to the man? A. Proud B. Nervous C. Embarrassed D. fortable 3.Why did Bob keep that little red leaf? A. It was a care from a girl B. It was a symbol of enthusiasm C. It was a reminder of his painful days D. It represented the knowledge of trees 4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.A Simple Red Leaf B.A Strange Neighbor C. An Unusual Friend D.A Greeting From A girl 【文章大意】本文是一篇記敘文。 But her cheerfulness soon faded when the man didn’t look at her and say “Hi” back.及As we continued on our walk to school, my daughter asked why the man didn’t want to say hi to her. Because I didn’t have an answer,的提示可知令那位女孩困惑的是那位男士沒有回答她的問(wèn)候,故選D。 根據(jù)第三段中l(wèi)ater I knew that Bob lost his wife in a car accident. My interest in Chinese food started years ago, when I was a young reporter for the Washington Post. Our office wasnt far from Chinatown, __1__ I found some very good Chinese restaurants. That was the first time that I __2__ (notice) the fresh taste of the meat and vegetables of Chinese food. When I learned more about the food, I began to understand why __3__ has this special feature. Many years ago, China had __4__ energy crisis because it lost much of its wood due to overpopulation and poor management of its forests. This __5__ (lose) was very bad for the country, of course, but it turned out to be very good for the food. Wood became very expensive and hard to get, so the Chinese had to either find a substitute for their __6__ (value) wood, or learn how to use it better. There werent any substitutes, so people found ways to economize. In order to economize in cooking, they had to use very little wood. So they started cutting their meat and vegetables __7__ small pieces before they put them in the hot oil. That way, the food cooked __8__ (fast) and they saved more fuel. The food __9__ (prepare) in this way kept its fresh flavor—and its this flavor __10__ attracts people from other countries to the art of Chinese cooking. 1.________ 2.________ 3.________ 4.________ 5.________ 6.________ 7.________ 8.________ 9.________ 10.________ 篇章導(dǎo)讀:本文是一篇說(shuō)明文。 在“It/This/That be the+序數(shù)詞+time+that ...”句型中,若前面的be動(dòng)詞是一般過(guò)去時(shí),that從句使用過(guò)去完成時(shí),故填had noticed。 此處it代指前面的the food,故填it。 4.a(chǎn)n 考查冠詞。 cut ... into ... 此句去掉its和設(shè)空處后,仍是一個(gè)完整的句子,所以是強(qiáng)調(diào)句型,且被強(qiáng)調(diào)部分是this flavor,故填that。 One day when I was 13,my family was working in the fields to clear away old brush when somehow the electric fence sparked(冒火花)and __1__ a fire.We didnt see the fire __2__ it had blocked the way to the only gate.I __3__ to jump over the fence to safety but the fire was all around us.I could only watch in __4__ as the flames continued to rise.Little did I know that my father had once been a(n)__5__ and knew what to do. __6__ with only a pump sprayer, buckets, and his boots,he __7__ down to the nearby pond, filled the buckets and the sprayer, and began spraying the __8__ while my older brother threw water with the buckets.Soon the wind __9__,however,and with the Fire Department too far away to arrive in time,my father began to stamp(踩滅) out the flames as he moved to the __10__,so that my family was able to move inch by inch toward the gate.__11__ he arrived at the gate,he jumped into the truck, rolled up the windows, and drove __12__ the fire. Then the fire was put out,and my mother was looking at my father with her __13__ eyes. The majority of my classmates joined the activity. Early in the morning, having assembled outside the school gate, we head straight to Mount Tai. We set out for the top in high spirits when the moment we arrived at the foot of the mountain. In a course of the climb, we cooperated with each other to pass the rocky and steep areas. Laughing and cheering, we eventually reached the summit, which we were greeted by the bright sunshine and fresh air. Viewing from the top, the city was beautiful. Bathed in the warm sunshine, we entertained us with stories, songs, dances and game. This event was extremely beneficial for not only did we take a break from our heavy school workload, but we also learned how to cooperate. Therefore, we strongly suggest that similar events are held every year! In order to promote participation in exercise, our school organized an activity to climb Mount Tai on April 10.
