Warming up Discuss the following question with your partner and share your idea with other groups. What kind of methods can you think out to let smokers give up smoking? Step 2. Fast-reading Read the passage quickly and find out 4Ds and 4 methods to stop smoking. 4 Ds 4 methods Suggested Answer: Four Ds 4 methods Delay Make a plan Distraction Set a date Drink water Keep busy Deep breathing Develop new interests Step 3. Careful-reading Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions. 1. Which of the four Ds do you think is the best idea? 2. Which of the other ideas do you like best? 3. Do you think you would follow this advice if you were a smoker? Step 4 Post reading a. Discussion What advice would you like to take if you were a heavy smoker? b. Interview: Suppose you are a newspaper reporter and you will interview a heavy smoker. The following questions may help you. ①How old were you when you started smoking? ②Why did you smoke? ③When did you think about giving up smoking? ④Why did you want to stop smoking? ⑤What did you do to stop smoking? ⑥What did you want to say to other smokers?
