A In just eight months, my dog Toby had grown too big for our small apartment, so Mom sent him to GrandmA s farm. To fort me, Mom got me a cat and I decided to train this cat. First, I named him Wilbur. Next, I decided to train him not to make our apartment dirty. In order to train him to use the litter box my mother bought as his toilet, I followed him everywhere, watching for some sign that he wanted to go outside, just like Id done with Toby. I waited and watched. But all that cat did was sleep. Pretty soon I fell asleep, too. When I woke up, I heard some noise from the box. I looked inside and found Wilbur in it on his own. If a cat could do that by himself easily, I figured that teaching him a few tricks would be a cinch. I set Wilbur down in front of me and said, “Sit”, pushing his back down gently, just like Id done with Toby. However, he jumped away. This cat didnt know anything about taking orders. Then I decided to give him a bath. Id washed Toby every Saturday. Strangely, at the sound of the running water, Wilbur began to lick (舔) himself. Mom saw what I was doing. “Oh, honey, cats dont need baths.” She looked at Wilbur. “See?” she said. “They clean themselves.” When Wilbur finished bathing, he made a strange noise, like a motor running, so I sat down to get a better listen. To my surprise, Wilbur moved to me, and jumped onto my legs. Toby never did that! Seeing that, Mom said, “You know, cats only do that when they really like you.” I looked up at her, then down at the cat and said, “Let me introduce Wilbur, Mom. He is my friend now.” 1.What did the author do for the cat? A. He gave the cat a name. B. He bought the cat a box. C. He freed the cat from the toilet. D. He helped the cat clean himself. 根據第二段中的“First, I named him Wilbur”可知答案。 2.The underlined word “cinch” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”. A. boring thing B. simple thing C. funny thing D. terrible thing 答案與解析 B 詞義猜測題。 3.What did the author feel about Wilbur before he jumped onto his legs? A. He didnt think Wilbur could be friends with Toby. B. He didnt think Wilbur would make a good pet. C. He thought Wilbur was dirty. D. He thought Wilbur was lazy. 根據第二、三、四段內容,尤其是第二段中的“But all that cat did was sleep”和第三段中的“This cat didnt know anything about taking orders”可知, Wilbur并不配合作者的訓練,因此作者一開始并不認為Wilbur會是一個好寵物。 4.From the text we know that Toby did all the following things EXCEPT ________. A. doing some tricks B. taking baths every Saturday C. jumping onto the authors legs D. giving signs when he wanted to go outside 答案與解析 C 細節(jié)理解題。根據倒數第二段中的“To my surprise, Wilbur moved to me, and jumped onto my legs. She was very proud to be the first Native American to get this award. It was given to her because of the Navajo people. A lot had changed because of her. Annie was born in 1910 in Arizona. When Annie was 8 years old, her father sent her away to receive a good education — homes of Navajos were too spread to build schools near where people lived. That year, a terrible flu swept through her school. Some of the students died. Annie wasnt seriously affected, so she helped care for those who were sick. She said her interest in health work began to grow because of this early event in her life. When she grew up, Wauneka saw the poor health of many Navajo people. This troubled her, and she wanted to do something about it. In 1951, she ran for a seat on the tribal council (部落委員會). She won, and in fact, she served for 27 years. From the start, she pushed for better living conditions. Every year, many Navajos and others died from tuberculosis (肺結核), or TB. Wauneka fought to reduce the number of TB cases and deaths across the country. This was the main reason she won the Medal of Freedom in 1963. Wauneka wanted her people to take good care of their own health. She talked to them about health each week on the radio. And she wrote a dictionary of medical terms to help them talk to doctors and nurses that werent Navajos. Wauneka knew that education was the key to a good future. First of all, she wanted Navajo children to have schools closer to where they lived. She knew from her own childhood experiences how hard it was to leave home at a young age. Wauneka received the name “Legendary (傳奇的) Mother of the Navajo Nation” from the tribal council in 1984. She could have stopped then, but of course she didnt. At the time of her death in 1997, her grandson said, “She made us proud to be Navajo.” Annie Wauneka would have smiled to hear him say that. 語篇解讀 本文是記敘文。文章講述了Annie Wauneka為納瓦霍族人所做的貢獻。 5.Annie Wauneka was sent away to study because ________. With my suitcase packed and some sandwiches in a bag, I started for the front door and said to Mom, “I __36__ (leave).” “If you want to run away, thats all right,” she said. “But you came into this home __37__ anything and you can leave the same way.” I threw my suitcase and sandwiches on the floor heavily and started for the door again. “Wait a minute,” Mom said. “I want your __38__ back. You didnt wear anything when you arrived.” This really angered(激怒) me. I took my clothes off — shoes, socks, underwear and all — and shouted, “Can I go now?” “Yes,” Mom answered, “but once you close that door, dont expect __39__ (e) back.” I was so angry that I slammed (砰地關上) the door and stepped out on the front porch. __40__ (sudden) I realized that I was outside, with nothing on. Then I noticed that two girls were walking toward our house. I ran to hide behind a big tree in our yard at once. After a while, I was sure the girls __41__ (pass) by. Then I dashed to the front door and banged on it loudly. “Whos there?” I heard. “Its Billy! Let me in!” The voice behind __42__ door answered, “Billy doesnt live here anymore. He ran away from home.” __43__ (glance) behind me to see if anyone else was ing, I begged, “Aw, e on, Mom! Im still your son. Let me __44__!” The door opened and Moms smiling face appeared. “Did you change your __45__ (decide) about running away?” she asked. “Whats for supper?” I answered. 答案與解析 36.am leaving/will leave 根據語境“作者收拾好行李,準備離開家,和媽媽說‘我要走了’”,可知,該空動作表將來,用現在進行時表將來或will do。 37.without 根據語境“但是你一無所有的來到這個家”可知該空填介詞without。 38.clothes 根據下文語境“脫衣服”可知,該空填clothes。 39.to e 根據動詞expect的用法expect to do sth.“期盼做某事”可知該空填to e。 40.Suddenly 設空處所填詞在句中作狀語,應用副詞形式,故填Suddenly。 41.had passed 根據語境可知“女孩走過去”是發(fā)生在was sure之前的動作,表“過去的過去”,應用過去完成時。 42.the the door“門”。 43.Glancing 主句主語I與glance為主動關系,應用現在分詞形式作狀語。 44.in let ... in“讓某人進去”。 Dear Editor, Im a high school student in key school of Banding city.
