(10分)閱讀理解 On June 26, 2000, two scientists, called Francis Collins and Craig Venter, told the world that they could now read the whole "map"of the human body: DNA. DNA is something that everybody has, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our mother and father, because we get some of their DNA to make our own. People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In 1860, Gregor Mendel discovered a special reason why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things named "genes" in our body. In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick made another discovery and found out that those small parts are real messages written in the DNA with a special language. In 1961, Marshall Nirenberg and Johann Matthaei found a message in DNA showing how DNA tells the cell (細胞)to build its parts. Scientists have now found all the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one"word"means, we can help save more people from several illnesses. Most people hope that this will help make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when people begin to know more words and find out lots of other information, we might use it in a wrong way, just to make people more attractive, or stop sick people from getting jobs. Man would have to meet a lot of trouble if DNA technic wasnt limited in use. (1)When did we first know why we look like other people in our family? A . In 1860. B . In 1953. C . In 1961. D . In 2000. (2)What does the underlined word "gene"mean? A . The "map"of Dna. B . A special language. C . Small parts of Dna. D . Dna. (3)What did the two scientists first discover in 1961? A . The "map" of Dna B . A new illness. C . The language of Dna D . A message of Dna. (4)What can we do if we understand some "words" of the language inside the body? A . Make people get new jobs. B . Make medicine for illnesses. C . Make maps of human. D . Make people less attractive. (5)What do people think about this work? A . It can cause good or bad results. B . It can cause only good results. C . It can cause good results but wont work. D . It can cause only bad results. 18. (8分) Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, "Happiness depends upon (取決于)ourselves." In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions(建議) to help you be happier. The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future. For example, getting into college or getting a good job -that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy lifes simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives. Another secret to living a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people experience this dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity. Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes. (1)The best title of the passage is______. A . Money Makes You Happy B . The Secrets of Happiness C . Ideas for Helping Other People to Be Happy D . Good Friends Make You Happy (2)The passage gives us ______pieces of advice on happiness. A . one B . two C . three D . four (3)The writer thinks that______. A . Reading a good book. B . Traveling to a foreign country. C . Playing a sport. D . Spending time with close friends. 19. (10分)根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,選擇正確答案。 (A) Day and night across China, groups of middle-aged retirees, mostly women, gather together to dance in open space, like squares and parks. They are known as "guang chang wu da ma". Their love for square dancing has made them a national phenomenon (現(xiàn)象). However, some people dont think highly of it. Their music is too loud, and they take up too much public space. Besides, they even dance at improper (not proper) places-such as the square in front of the Louvre in Paris, where Chinese tourists broke into a dance last year. Even so, the dancers are growing in number and style. Li Dong, 46, is a pioneer in this field. "In addition to keeling fit, square dancing has become so popular because older people who are free from work and from raising children want to be connected with one another. But I think that square dancing has a deeper meaning." By teaching herself different dances, such as Latin, Tango and Cha-cha, Li adds variety (花樣) to square dancing. "Although we are old, we are curious (好奇的) and want to try different dance style," she adds, "because square dancing has attracted so much attention, I want to take it seriously. " As for peoples objection (反對), Li says her team has taken the suggestion of turning down the volume (音量) and dancing at proper sites. "We are not a trouble at all." (1)Why does the writer mention Chinese tourists broke into a dance in front of the Louvre in Paris? A . Because their music was too loud. B . Because they werent dancing at a proper place. C . Because they took up too much space. D . Because they wanted to show their dancing to others. (2)Which of the following is NOT the reason why older people love square dancing? A . It can help them keep healthy. B . They want to communicate with one another C . They are free from work and raising children. D . They want to attract peoples attention. (3)As for peoples objection, Li has . A . taught herself different dances like Latin, etc. B . danced better than before C . put on beautiful dresses D . tried to make less noise and choose proper sites (4)Which words can be used to describe Li Dong? A . Curious and creative. B . Helpful and careful. C . Kind and funny. D . Patient and active (5)This passage most probably comes from . A . A story book B . A science magazine C . A newspaper D . A text book 20. (6分) It can be hard to meet people from another culture. From the beginning, people may send the wrong signal (信號). Or they may pay no attention to signals from another person who is trying to develop a relationship. Different cultures emphasize(強調(diào))the importance of relationship building to a greater or lesser degree. For example, business in some countries is not possible until there is a relationship of trust. Even with people at work, it is necessary to spend a lot of time in “small talk”, usually over a glass of tea, before they do any job. In many European countries—like the UK or France—people find it easier to build up a lasting working relationship at restaurants rather than at the office. Talk and silence may also be different in some cultures. I once made a speech in Thailand. I had expected my speech to be a success and start a lively discussion; instead there was an uncomfortable silence. The people just looked at me all the time and smiled. After getting to know their ways better, I realized that they thought I was talking too much. In my own culture, we express meaning mainly through words, but people there sometimes feel too many words are not needed. Even within Northern Europe, cultural differences can cause serious problems. Certainly, English and German cultures share almost the same values; however, Germans prefer to get down to business more quickly. We think that they are rude. In fact, this is just because one culture starts discussions and makes decisions more quickly. People from different parts of the world have different values, and sometimes these values are quite against each other. However, if we can understand them better, a multicultural (多元文化) environment will offer a wonderful chance for us to learn from each other. (1)In some countries, eating together at restaurants may make it easier for people to. A . develop closer relationship B . share the same culture C . get to know each other D . make a successful speech (2)The writer mentions his journey in Thailand to show that. A . too many words are of no use B . the English prefer to make long speeches C . even talk and silence can be culturally different D . people from Thailand are quiet and shy (3)What would be the best title for the passage? A . Multicultural Environment B . Cross-Cultural Differences C . How to Understand Each Other D . How to Build Up a Relationship 四、 填空題 (共1題;共1分) 21.
